New Jersey finds itself in the epicenter of the country’s COVID-19 outbreak, second only to New York in the number of cases. In response, the state has taken strong action to mitigate infections. The below is taken from the state’s COVID-19 Information Hub:
“To mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and protect the capacity of New Jersey’s health care system for the state’s most vulnerable, Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order No. 107 on March 21, 2020, directing all residents to stay at home until further notice. The order provides for certain exceptions, such as:
- obtaining essential goods or services
- seeking medical attention
- visiting family or close friends
- reporting to work
- engaging in outdoor activities.
On March 9, 2020, Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order No. 103, declaring a state of emergency and a Public Health Emergency. This order directs the State Director of Emergency Management to take any such emergency measures as the State Director may determine necessary, including the implementation of the State Emergency Operations Plan and directing the activation of county and municipal emergency operations plans, in order to fully and adequately protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the State of New Jersey from any actual or potential threat or danger that may exist from the possible exposure to COVID-19.
